The work has slowed down considerably in all of Southern California and that includes us in the Inland Empire. There have been many projects pulled back and some downsized from their original designs. As reported at the last Union Meeting, two power plants, which were scheduled to begin at the end of this year, have been pulled back. They were unable to win the Solicitation bids for power from Southern California Edison. Consequently, High Grove and San Gabriel Generating Stations have been put on hold until further notice. The 513 MW City Victorville Generating Station, which has a 50-megawatt solar field attached to it, has some stiff air quality issues they are currently working through. We are unsure when this project will be able to proceed. We are still negotiating a PLA with them at this time. |
The Ivanpah Solar Tower project, which is to be 400 megawatts of solar thermal generation, is still on line to happen. It is progressing through the review process of the PUC. We are still negotiating with them for a PLA. This project will be similar to Solar One that we did just outside of Barstow. Our local contractors have seen the same slowdown in their work such as the rest of the country. There have been deep cuts by most of our major employers. At this time we have approximately 100 Wiremen on Book 1 and 25 Inside Apprentices out of work. We have 5 Sound Installers on Book 1. Reminder, if you are planning to travel outside of our jurisdiction to work, please make sure you have registered with ERTS which transfers your pension and health benefits to your home local. |
PicnicDon’t forget the picnic will be held on August 23rd at the Stampede Ball Park in downtown San Bernardino.Mark your calanders! |
